Residents of Hoima City have outlined key priorities, urging newly elected leaders to tackle poor roads, waste management, water access, and health infrastructure.

Hoima City voters have outlined key service delivery gaps they want addressed by newly elected leaders.

Among the priorities raised by residents are poor roads in peripheral areas, inadequate garbage management, limited access to clean water—sometimes shared with wild animals—extension of electricity to some villages, and the relocation of roadside food vendors to safer, organized spaces.

Residents also highlighted the absence of a general hospital, lack of health centers at division level, and the failure to fully benefit from the Parish Development Model (PDM) program.

Patrick Kajuma, a resident of Bujwahya, said Hoima City is currently disorganized.

“There has been a problem of poor garbage management and roadside food vendors. With AFCON coming next year, the town needs to be clean and organized,” he said.

Wycliffe Tumusime of Buswekera urged leaders, particularly MPs, to push for the creation of the long-awaited Bunyoro Public University.

“The President came here for the groundbreaking, but no progress has been made. We want it operationalized and passed by Parliament,” he said.

Fred Ndabiraaho of Bujumbura West Cell highlighted poor roads and limited access to health services as urgent issues.

“We need a general hospital, clean water, and improvements in government-aided schools,” he said.

These concerns were voiced during a thanksgiving ceremony for Hoima City Woman Member of Parliament Asinansi Nyakato at the PFF offices in Rusembe Cell, Hoima West Division, on Monday evening.

Nyakato emphasized the need for an independent general hospital in Hoima City, noting that patients—especially mothers—currently rely on Hoima Regional Referral Hospital, which is congested with cases from neighboring districts. She said this has contributed to higher maternal mortality.

The Woman MP also pledged to continue lobbying the central government to expedite the operationalization of Bunyoro Public University and called for teamwork among all newly elected city leaders to transform Hoima City.

Edward Isingoma, Hoima City Mayor-elect, echoed these sentiments, pledging to ensure residents receive the services they deserve once he assumes office.
